Overview
Welding machines, plasma cutters and induction heaters are high-frequency, high-current converters with an unusual combination of demands: fast switching for compact transformers, ruggedness for the short-circuit conditions of welding arcs, and low EMI to meet industrial standards. MacMic's high-speed IGBT discretes and modules were developed for exactly this class of equipment, and they are widely used in Chinese welding and induction manufacturing. BeiLuo supplies them with genuine traceability and application support.
The High-Speed Power Stage
A modern inverter welder rectifies the mains, then drives a high-frequency transformer through a full bridge or half bridge switching at 20-40 kHz. The switching frequency shrinks the transformer and output inductor dramatically compared with a line-frequency machine, which is why inverter welders are so much lighter. The IGBTs must tolerate the rapid current changes of the arc and the reflected energy of the welding process. MacMic G3U discrete IGBTs are designed for switching above 15 kHz, balancing conduction and switching loss for this duty, while HN IGBT modules extend the approach to higher power levels.
Soft Recovery and EMI
At these frequencies, reverse recovery of the freewheeling path dominates EMI and losses. An ordinary rectifier snaps off and generates high dv/dt and ringing. MacMic fast recovery diode modules are built from MacMic's own FRED chip with fast, soft recovery, so the diode releases stored charge gradually. The result is lower overshoot, less ringing and a simpler EMC design, often without snubbers. Pairing an HN module with an MMF FRD module gives a well-matched, low-noise power stage.
Induction Heating
Induction heating uses a resonant tank driven by the IGBT bridge. The resonant current is nearly sinusoidal, so the devices switch close to zero voltage or zero current, which reduces switching loss and supports high frequency. Even so, the current is large and the duty cycle is high, so thermal design is critical. A module's low thermal resistance and even heat spreading keep the junction temperature in check, and the module's integrated diode supports the resonant current path cleanly.
Protection and Reliability
Welding and induction equipment works in harsh plants with fluctuating mains and heavy inductive loads. Short-circuit protection, careful dead-time design and rugged devices are essential. MacMic IGBTs provide good short-circuit capability, and the BeiLuo FAE team helps size gate resistors, dead time and snubbers for the actual load. Combined with genuine modules, documented compliance and long-term availability, this lets welder manufacturers build reliable products and keep production supplied.
Getting Started
Send BeiLuo your output power, switching frequency and topology. We will propose a matched set of MacMic G3U discretes or HN modules, a soft-recovery diode, gate-drive guidance and thermal design review, then quote with stock and lead time.
Documentation and Support
Every BeiLuo shipment of MacMic modules includes import declarations, certificates of origin and RoHS documents, and our FAE team supports gate drive, layout and thermal design for high-frequency welding and induction stages. Because EMI and overshoot dominate at these frequencies, we help you size the gate resistor, manage dead time and choose a soft-recovery diode that keeps the commutation loop quiet. Send your output power, switching frequency and topology, and we will propose a matched set of G3U discretes or HN modules with a compatible FRD and quote with stock and lead time.
